breakthrough
breakthrough was published three times a year for science teachers between 1999 and 2001. The editor was Peter Ellis who gathered contributions from a wide range of authors. The aim was to provide a termly pack of resources on the history and nature of science and technology and the people who made the stories. The emphasis was on resources that teachers could use directly in class. Each edition of breakthrough provided photocopiable materials which teachers were free to adapt as they wished. The resources could be photocopied in full, or in part or chopped up and used as desired.
Each edition of breakthrough included feature articles and regular items such as profiles of key scientists, interviews with contemporary scientists and ideas for places to visit. The teachers’ pages provided answers to questions and notes on practical activities.
