Energy
These materials, produced by the Technology Enhancement Programme (TEP), are a design and make project investigating the micro-climate of a school's grounds to decide the best location for a solar panel or wind generator. Students are required to undertake the following tasks:
- Use instrumentation
- Design and make a wind turbine
- Design and make a solar panel
- Site analysis - planning the investigation
- Find out what others think about wind power
- Consider power from the wind, power from rubbish or tidal power
Having identified the potential for either wind or solar power the resources enable the students to go through the process of designing and making:
- An anemometer or a solarimeter if required for data collection
- A wind turbine
- A solar hot water panel
The publication also includes teachers notes showing links with the geography specifications and so the materials may be used as part of a cross-curricular topic.
