Primary Mathematics with Polydron
Polydron is a system of strong, colourful shapes capable of being fitted together to make nets of shapes that can be folded to make 3D models. Primary Mathematics with Polydron describes forty six activities, in eight themed chapters, designed to promote exploration and creativity as a vehicle for understanding.
Section One contains teacher support material outlining different uses and approaches which may be adopted .
Section two contains activities split into the following themed chapters: Making pictures, Puzzles and games, Covering and fencing, Making solids, Looking at solids, Tiling and patching, Growing into algebra, Reflecting and rotating.
Section three has the recording sheets necessary for some of the activities.
Section four is a glossary of terms.
Section five contains reference pages with additional ideas and a reading list for teachers who want to work to a deeper level. Each activity details the materials required, the mathematical opportunity the activity affords, language opportunities and hints, ideas and extensions in addition to describing the activity.
