Year Two: Autumn Term. Old Curriculum

This resource from Hamilton Trust contains two weekly plans, teaching sequences and classroom resources. They cover counting and ordering to 100, place value, number facts to 20 and counting on and back in tens. The detailed teaching sequences include differentiated activity ideas, suggested resources and notes on progression and misconceptions. Objectives are:

Week 1

  • Recite numbers to 100
  • Count up to 100 objects
  • Count on in tens from single and two-digit numbers and back again
  • Mark two-digit numbers on a beaded line, then landmarked line (labelled in tens)
  • Order numbers to 100, compare two numbers, say which is more or less
  • Say a number between any given neighbouring pairs of multiples of ten (for example, 40 and 50)
  • Make a sensible estimate up to 100
  • Show two-digit numbers on a bead string and write the corresponding addition (for example, 26 = 20 + 6)
  • Partition two-digit numbers into multiples of ten and one • Use place value to add and subtract (for example, 30 + 4, 53 – 3)

Week 2

  • Partition all numbers to 10, then 20 into pairs, record related addition sentences and find corresponding subtraction facts
  • Use the = sign to represent equality (for example, 6 + 4 = 7 + 3)
  • Recognise the use of a symbol such as ■ to represent an unknown
