Year Four Autumn Term

Aimed at primary children from eight to nine years of age, this resource supports learning about place value, addition and subtraction. Two detailed weekly plans contain differentiated activities, guided and independent tasks and a list of resources required for each lesson. Objectives covered in the lessons include:

Week One

  • Understand what each digit represents in a 4-digit number
  • Write place value additions and subtractions
  • Place 3-digit and 4-digit numbers on a line and compare them

Week Two

  • Mental addition of pairs of 2-digit numbers or 3-digit numbers and 2-digit numbers using partitioning, place value or counting up
  • Mental subtraction of 2-digit numbers from numbers less than 200 by counting back or counting up
