Genome Editing and CRISPR

This resource provides students with debate and discussion style activities based upon genome editing. This process allows scientists to make changes to a specific “target” site in the genome. One of the techniques that has generated the most excitement, is called “CRISPR.” CRISPR stands for “clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats”.

Scientists have been able to take components of the CRISPR system and use it as an experimental tool within the food and farming industries to enhance yields. Activities allow the benefits and ethical problems of this process to be debated and discussed by students. The resources include a summary of the research upon which they are based.
