Multiplication - EAL
Although the activities in this resource have been created for pupils for whom English is an additional language, the activities are suitable for all pupils studying multiplication as they help to establish the exact meaning and use of the vocabulary used around multiplication, such as 'times' and 'lots of'. The first 2 sets of flashcards contain useful visual representations of this vocabulary which enables pupils to hear and rehearse the language. Pupils' understanding of the various terms associated with multiplication can then be tested using flashcard sets 3 and 4.
The final activity is a fully prepared Connect 4 game where pupils are given a grid of answers and they have to find the correct calculations to create a line across the grid, in either word or number form, from a set of cards they are given.
For each activity there are suggestions in the teacher guidance on how to further support or challenge pupils.
