GCSE Student Booster - Bit Shifting and Hexadecimal (Pre-event materials)

In this online session on number representation, you’ll learn about binary shift operations and the key role they play in CPU processing. You will also be introduced to base 16 (hexadecimal), you will find out why it’s used and practice methods for converting between it and other number bases.

By the end of this 90-minute session, you will:

  • Be able to perform left and right binary shifts
  • Recap number systems used in computing and be able to perform basic arithmetic operations
  • Know why hexadecimal is used and its advantages
  • Know how to convert between the number systems, binary, denary and hexadecimal
