New understanding science 1: special needs support material

These photocopiable worksheets seek to support the reading, writing and practical skills of less able pupils following New Understanding Science Book 1: Revised National Curriculum Edition.;Pupils may find it difficult to read and understand their science textbooks. This may be the result of general reading and writing difficulties, the use of specific scientific language or having English as a second language.

These worksheets have been prepared to familiarize pupils with new words, clarify experimental procedures and structure written work. They are suitable for lower ability pupils who need significant help, or for building the confidence of more able pupils.;The book follows the order of New Understanding Science Book 1, which matches the requirements of the revised 1995 National Curriculum.

To extend the opportunities for differentiation, the worksheets now support both core and extension activities. The book includes: word searches and simple crosswords; structured activity sheets; structured report sheets; matching exercises; close procedures; lists of relevant words for answering questions; and simplified unit tests.
